Has anyone encountered a bug where you're unable to fire torpedoes in a battle?

As the title suggests, a few times now my ships have flat out refused to fire torpedoes, the ships were within range, were heading towards me and the torpedo launchers did turn, they just didn't fire any. The launch direction was within the launchers arch and I have Torpedoes loaded, so what's wrong?
