Why isn't a Brigadier in charge of US Army Brigades? Isn't the clue in the name?
Post Body

Admittedly, the CO of a US Brigade Combat Team might be a Brigadier-General, but I read in multiple places that it is usually a Colonel.

In the UK a Colonel would be in charge of a Regiment (excepting many other roles), and a Brigadier in charge of a Brigade. A Brigade is almost always a one star formation, so why isn't it led by a one star Brig-Gen?

Or am I missing something? Would appreciate reading material as well as straightforward corrections.
