Riverine warfare in the 20th Century?
Post Body
During WW1 and the Russian Civil War, the Royal Navy committed forces to Lake Tanganyika, the Tigris River and the rivers of Russia. In the 1930s, British gunboats patrolled the Yangtse, and there was some involvement from them in WW2, including the invasion of Iran. Did other navies maintain riverine forces during the 20th Century, and how involved in warfare were they? I'm particularly interested in the Russian Civil War, but I'd be happy to hear about any other examples.
