I've seen artillery barrel life and worn out artillery barrels cited as significant factors on battlefields both historical and modern, such as taking the blame for the failure of the 1918 German spring offensive, to their impact on the battlefield in Ukraine today. But I've seen less discussion about the actual details of why they are such a problem
I presume they lose accuracy - but how much accuracy do they lose? Do worn out barrels become unusable, or even dangerous for their crews?
thank you in advance!
