From my comfy armchair and on paper, a system that could remotely scatter a naval minefield seems to have the potential to be a very effective area denial weapons system. Anti-armor minefields launched via artillery have proved highly effective, and while an artillery shell wouldn't have enough power to distribute naval mines, a missile might. The Navy is currently exploring a missile launched naval mine
Such a system seems to have the potential to be highly effective in denying the use of a port to an enemy force, particularly relevant for the growing Sino-American conflict in the Pacific
But the fact that this seems like such a good idea, and nobody is proposing it to my knowledge, makes me think there are some obvious pitfalls that I'm missing here
Thank you!
