Trigger warnings for SA and all things slavery.
I just caught up to the current chapters and I have to say, the scenes that stick with me the most are those from when Erin was captured by Roshal.
That chapter was a serious masterclass in horror writing. I've read hundreds of books, and the main characters have been made slaves in several of them. Never have I ever resonated so strongly with the horror of it. It often comes across as either comically evil, or absurd and sexy instead of horrible.
There were so many details that I loved from a meta prospective. I love how paba never lingered on what happened. There was such a sheer, brutal efficiency to how Roshal treated erin and how that treatment was described. They removed her clothes with a single line of dialog and description, stripping her dignity casually.
The way the sentences become so short. So matter of fact. There is no flourish or art there just the sheer brutality.
I don't know how to describe it, but that chapter more than any other really show's pabas talent with horror.
Sorry for the rambling rant, but I needed to get this out of my system and gush about how horrible it was.
