Pros and cons of renting Disney Vacation Club resorts?

Looking to plan a trip for my family. I’ve always stayed on property not any of the DVC resorts. I recently stumbled upon being able to rent points and able to get one of those resorts. They seem like nice resorts. Is there a catch? What sites did you use previously? Give me all the details I need to know please!
