Sam said that the sense of self is thinking without knowing that you are thinking. But when you do know that you are thinking, who is doing this knowing, if not a singular “you?” Perhaps this is where language starts to break down, because the distinction between subject and object is implicit in language. “Know” implies one who knows, but there is no “one,” no center. So in the sense of being mindful of thoughts, what does it mean to know a thought, if it does not mean there is one who is knowing? Maybe it’s that attention has been brought to a thought. But what is attention? Is it undefinable?
Also, if there is no self, who is getting trapped in the self? How can we not know we are thinking if there never was a one to know or not know?
