The MG42 has 50, (according to a post earlier today) the Bren has 30, the Lewis gun has 47. The MG15 has 50.
This is silly. One of the main reasons to use an LMG is a very high ammo capacity, and we certainly aren’t getting that with this game. If you research the aforementioned weapons, you can see that many/all of them could easily be configured with higher ammo capacities.
It’s bad enough that the maps we’ve seen so far are largely built for SMG users, but LMG users trade off a lot of qualities for the advantages that these weapons possess. We accept very slow reload times, very slow ADS times, awful hipfire spread, and slower base movement speed for weapons that do good damage, are decently to very accurate, and have a high supply of ammunition per mag, and overall, in terms of our full ammo supply for this. We trade a LOT to get these benefits, and to have them whittled away will likely just push more people away from a weapon class that is already underutilized.
From the beta, we don’t even have great ammo supplies overall either. It was fairly often that I’d run out of ammo using the MG15, not to mention having to reload it more often than an LMG should have to be. And those lower ammo counts per mag/overall led to me trying to use the LMG’s a bit more like automatic or assault rifles than LMG’s, in the sense that in past CoD games I’d use a lot of suppressive fire, and in this game I don’t do that as much because of the ammo limitations. I primarily play Domination, and it was common for me in many past CoD games to spray the hell out of whatever enemies might be approaching/their general area while I did overwatch, covering my teammates as they took the B flag on a map. You know, like one of the ways an LMG is supposed to be used.
As someone who mainly plays with LMG’s, but also uses other weapons a decent amount, it is very disheartening to see the LMG’s be in such a crappy spot for this game when you take into account the factors I mentioned coupled with the design of the maps, and how difficult it is to hold/lock down areas due to the very pourous nature of them, where you can get flanked and shot from so many different routes and angles on all of the beta maps.
I think that both the mag capacities of the LMG’s, and their overall ammo counts should be increased, so that they can more effectively fill the role they’re primarily intended for.
