I will start off with general thoughts.
I believe that a WWII style Call of Duty will be a "fresh" idea to a lot of current players. Even though the concept was used in the past, it is still considered a fresh start in my opinion due to what we have had in the past 3-4 years. I am personally excited because World at War was my favorite Call of Duty. They have a lot options to work with in terms of campaign setting, what sides you are taking a part in, and map construction for multiplayer. A lot of people are worried that Sledgehammer is going to ruin the WWII setting game. I think that Sledgehammer are the perfect candidates to bring us back to the ground, because they are the only team to not bring us a pre-modern setting. We all know that Condrey and the crew are huge fans of WWII and want to make this to bring Call of Duty back to its roots.
Now, I will go into things that I believe should be implemented or recycled into the game.
- Theater Mode: Theater mode is a must have, I am saying this from a competitive standpoint, but it is extremely helpful to the casual player who wants to show off to his friends.
- 3, 5, 7 score/killstreaks: I enjoyed games such as World at War and CoD4 because the streaks weren't complicated. Now, you have 10-12 streaks to choose from and its not needed. Most the streaks aren't used in the newer Call of Dutys at all.
- Maps: I believe that maps should be medium sized mostly with your average small map (Nuketown/Rust). It would be awesome to see maps from World at War and Black Ops make a remake appearance in the map packs.
- Zombies: If they are going to continue the trend, I can agree for there to be a main map that goes with the story line and that there should be a map(s) that are just to solely survive.
- Class setups: There is no need for 30 guns that are unbalanced and unused/overused. Give us 20-25 guns that are used throughout the game, such as the guns in Black Ops 1 or Black Ops 2. A pick 10 system is probably the best bet here.
- Gametypes: I think they should implement all the gametypes that were in World at War Hardpoint Blitz. War was an amazing gametype in World at War and died too soon (AW doesn't count).
- Movement: Sliding will more than likely be the best bet in terms of "extra movement." The only other option for that would be dolphin diving and that wasn't really a big difference in terms of movement (We don't talk about diving to cap flags ;) )
- Detailed combat record: I personally loved the combat record system in Black Ops 1. You could see everybodys stats after a certain point and it was interesting to see how you stacked up against your friends.
- Wager Matches: With the use of supply drops and the "new" currency for the supply drops, I do not see a reason why we can't have wager matches to wager the keys/salvage.
- Vehicles: Tanks were not, I repeat, WERE NOT overpowered in World at War. If you didn't want to fight them, you could stick to the outsides of the map no problem. If they were really causing you problems, C4 and grenades were always on hand.
- A finished game: Infinite Warfare was by far the most unfinished game in the history of Call of Duty releases. It was very unprofessional and unnecessary for a game that was being made for 3 years (They spent a year and a half or so on campaign by itself). The game came out without half its features.
TL:DR; I am ready for CoD 2017 and excited for this year in Call of Duty. Give me good maps, good guns, good streaks, finished game.
