oh. my god. i am 110% thankful this was not my situation.
I'm thinking it was just the umbilical cord, there wasn't anything really protruding other than the oversized tongue. What I'm thinking happened was her water actually broke about a week ago, but she didn't go into labor and nothing happened. Now this one kitten is born, and I did notice the placenta was already detached. It's also about 25% smaller than what full-term kittens should be at, so I guess the pregnancy must have just fucked up early.
I'm.......considering it. (I keep weird things, ok. I have lots of teeth and a baby shark in a jar, some weird owl foot, alligator head, etc etc)
Nah, I'm a former vet tech. She's totally empty. Pretty sad. :<
She was a rescue, didn't know she was pregnant until it was too late. The poor girl is TINY, didn't show at all until about a week ago.
Not after a few seconds, but I took it away shortly after it died. I believe it's her only kitten, too. :<
The clubbed feet was much more severe than the picture shows. The hind legs are pretty much completely reversed. Overall it really didn't look too weird, but it's about 25% smaller than what I know full-term kittens should be at, plus the bulging eyes & oversized tongue. Pretty sad. :<
We were told she was spayed. Guess that wasn't the case. Regardless, we live on a farm, and the more cats, the better.
We actually did, but thanks. She wasn't under any stress or pain, contractions never started. They sent us back home to watch her carefully and come back if needed once labor actually began.
I just noticed that. Checking now.
Yep, no idea. It's not on the body now.
There's really nothing to do. The mother wasn't and isn't under any stress or signs of post partum depression, so we took it away pretty quickly. It's buried out back, even though it never really lived I don't like to just throw things away like that.
Not at all! Otherwise 100% healthy. It's possible her flea medication might have interfered, but that's unlikely. I'd noticed her water had broken about a week ago, but she never went into labor and nothing really happened. I'm thinking possibly the placenta detached early, and then the kitten came out a week later. It's also her only kitten, so there's that.
As previously stated, we live on a farm and can use as many cats as we can get. I prefer rescuing those that come and find us or picking up strays, but hey, if a cat gets pregnant, big whoop. Less gophers and moles fucking up my crops.

I believe it was for a few seconds, but died shortly after birth.
