Ladies and gentlemen of this wonderful community! My summer project is to get my '99 GC8 on the road. It's quite fucked but it'll be good when it's done 😀
Unfortunately the original EJ205 has done 360,000 k's (~225,000 freedom burgers for those of you who had to endure a Trump presidency, we're sorry it happened to you but thankful it wasn't us lol) and it has bottom end knock so I'm gonna drive it until it dies then start again with a new motor.
There are not many EJ207s or EJ257s around here that are not thrashed, so if I go that route it would likely need a rebuild
Probably wouldn't build another EJ205 as I'd like a bit more low-end torque
Otherwise I can pull an EJ255 from a Hawkeye, and probably buy a written-off car woth a decent motor in it for cheaper than buying just the motor
Last option, do an EZ30/EZ36 swap. I like the idea of the flat 6 and there are lots of "mum cars" they can come out of which haven't been abused. Can NA it to start and add on a turbo later, but even NA it will make better power than the existing 205. But obviously there's a lot more work to get that to fit.
Wwyd?
