My task submission for my C850 Performance Assessment got returned, stating I need to contact the course instructor for approval to submit a revised version. The evaluator comments state:
B. EMERGING TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION: The submission proposes a trademark for Datadog Log Management. What is unclear is what embryonic or emerging technology is being proposed that was introduced within the last four years.
Section B of my submission reads as follows:
Technology Proposal
To meet the need for scalable, real-time log aggregation, scanning, storage, and retrieval, I propose TechFite adopt Datadog Logging without Limitsâ˘. Datadog is a cloud-based monitoring and log aggregation platform that offers advanced log management tools on a subscription basis. Through Logging without Limitsâ˘âs decoupled log ingestion and indexing, it is capable of handling thousands of log events per minute. (Logging Without Limits⢠Guide, n.d.)
Logging without Limits⢠is Datadogâs newest logging tool, using emerging technologies including advanced analytics techniques to generate metrics based on log data, anomaly detection, and predictive analysis of log events to proactively monitor for issues. Although it is based on a proven Platform-as-a-Service backbone, Logging without Limits⢠(which was released in late 2018) is an emerging solution, requiring a high degree of customization in order to use its full capabilities. Its relatively high price of $0.10 per ingested or scanned GB of data (which can add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars in monthly expenses as log storage climbs into terabytes) also denotes it as an emerging technology.
Of course I've tried to contact my CI and my PM about this, but it's been a week with no response. This is really harshing my mellow; C850 is one of 4 courses remaining for my degree, and my term ends in 3 weeks. I really don't want to end up burning another few thousand because the PA evaluators are taking the piss and the CI doesn't read his emails.
Anyway I'm going to get back to spinning my wheels on D085 while I wait. As an SRE by trade, I am professionally offended that this course is centered on Chef instead of Terraform, and everyone should know that.
