tl;dr - Don't apply for jobs you are not qualified for.
Hello everyone, I am the Executive Recruiter for a large, international employer and a WGU MBA student.
Every day, I see over 100 applications for a variety of management and executive level positions. I am always excited to see WGU grads apply and will often move them forward if I can.
But I can only move people forward if they are qualified for the job. I see people apply for director level roles with a couple years of management experience and a recent MBA. Under normal circumstances, that would be a stretch. Under the current circumstances, the applicant would likely be passed right over.
The best way to a job is to network. When someone "walks" your resume to the desk of the manager doing the hiring, you will likely get a call, even if you are barely qualified.
Most parts of the US are experiencing an unexpected "employer's market". Many managers want people who meet the requirements EXACTLY as stated in the job description. They don't want to train under-qualified people, and they don't want to pay or deal with over-qualified people.
Happy to discuss and offer suggestions!! Hoot hoot!!
