Howdy ho neighborino!
Down here in Portland we see the storm clouds gathering after the I-594 hurricane that swept through.
We’re gearing up to fight against whatever the anti-self-defense folks throw at us in 2015 and 2016 - but I think we have acknowledge the reality that what has worked in the past isn’t working anymore. For one, the largest and longest serving firearm advocacy group, Oregon Firearm Federation, is not very effective in the two battle-ground counties in Portland (Multnomah and Washington County) that really dictate public legislation for the entire state.
To meet these problems, myself and some allies have snagged on to the collective consciousness of bright ideas: We need a new face of gun owners in Portland. We’re everyday awesome Portlanders who are tolerant of differences, love the environment, live very respectable lives, and are passionate about building a better world. We are the biggest advocate for safer communities in our town. To do this means we need to change the perception of self-defense culture, we need to change the meaning of words, we need to change the debate, and challenge convention.
These are possibly huge goals.
This is why we need your help, neighbor.
I posted some updates today about what we’re doing in our backyard and trying to get feedback from folks to build consensus on what a campaign could/should look like.
I do have some very specific asks, first take a look at the link above, then: - Do you have a particular skill set that could help us? - Do you know any victims of violence or LEO who would be interested in advocating with us, or discussing the problems with I594?
Do you have any other thoughts as we embark on this journey?
Cheers!
