Hx of ADHD on Adderall 30mg xr with 10mg IR in afternoon. I went off this when I became pregnant with my now 9-yr old. Now that I’m done having children, I talked to my MD about starting back on meds. He started me on 10mg and said to give it a week. Well, I’ve been so tired that last night I fell asleep at 8:00pm and woke up at 9:00am today. He told me to wait a week but I’m thinking about calling Monday morning. Just looking for anyone’s experience. Thanks.

I am not familiar with Adderall, as we don’t get it here, but given your previous prescriptions I do think a whole week might be a bit of a waste. Maybe you could look into equivalents between Adderall and Vyvanse.
Not a doctor, but personally I would not wait for a week and my doctor never even started me that low. HOWEVER I think a big factor is how your MD assesses you in terms of drug seeking. How sensitive of a topic is it where you live?
I have a lot of freedom and flexibility with my dosage, my psychiatrist actually encourages it. But if you live in a place where drug testing and vigilance around drug seeking is a big thing, I‘d suggest patience. Even if just for the optics.

It sounds like you‘ve been dealing with a lot. I absolutely agree with your sponsor. Sure, there is potential of abuse with certain adhd meds. I find it important to remember that adhd is a risk factor for substance use disorders. Medications lessening your adhd symptoms may well lessen your risk of substance abuse. Studies have also found this effect (will cite a big one at the end of this comment).
While I don‘t know you, I hope you can give yourself grace. A lot of us self-medicate (e.g. alcohol, THC) without access to proper treatment. Assuming your depression and drinking habits were at least partially due to your unmedicated adhd, I am convinced that treating your adhd will help you deal with them as well.
I do think that honesty is the best policy and I really hope that your doctor doesn‘t treat you in a way that makes you feel ashamed. We adhd folks (I‘d say especially us women) deal with enough shame as is. I really hope things will get easier for you, you deserve it!
