[Entitled Parents] This is about my grandmother (eg) she’s always been pushy with her opinions and thought she was never wrong. Even argued with my text books being wrong on facts!
Now I am one of two grandchildren she had, the other being my brother who had already stated he was never getting married and that was final. So this was the only family wedding she was going to get in her lifetime. So she decided that I should get married near where she lived, a three hour drive from my home and a five hour drive from all other members of both sides of the wedding party.
We had decided to marry where the rest of the family was as it was a beautiful location and where we first met. I also stated that there was to be no hats, I hate those things unless it’s a baseball hat.
Now besides the wedding it was also a first chance for most of the family and friends to meet our daughter k. At three months old she was also our chief bridesmaid.
When eg found out we would not have the wedding there. She blew her stack and spent ten minutes screaming at my dad over the phone as she would not speak to me. My mum was hearing it from the next room and laughing as it was so ridiculous to have it there. Lovely rolling countryside v’s large industrial town. My dad then let it slip that hats were also banned she found a larger volume that even my dad said was impressive. He ended up hanging up on her in the end.
Fast forward to the week of the wedding and suddenly she is too ill to travel and attend. So I say that I would travel to see them after the wedding one day with k so they can at least meet her by train as I did not drive at the time.
The wedding goes with a couple of hitches but was a wonderful day. In the early evening I find out from overhearing a discussion between my parents that she was not ill but was well enough to take part in a dog agility competition (she lost) that she would have needed to sign up for two weeks minimum before the event to compete.
Needless to say I never spoke to her again and she never met her first granddaughter or the two sisters that followed her.
This is one of many stories about my eg. If this one goes well I’ll post more including the one where she tries to break up my family .
TLDR: grandmother thinks that she has final say over my wedding, doesn’t get her way so goes to a dog show instead.
