Small room and Vive?

I am currently saving to buy a Vive set.
My room is like 2.4 x around 1.5 meters. Will i be able to use the Vive? And if not, can I use it without roomscale?
People tell me to buy an oculus rift instead of a Vive, what makes you think that the Vive is better?
