Solo Day trip to Nashville

I'm thinking of visiting Nashville solo for one day, either June or September, probably a Tuesday. My plan is to travel from Knoxville and back same day as I'm also visiting the Smokey Mountains. I have two main questions regarding my trip...

1) Do the bars on Broadway have any crowds in the afternoon on a weekday, or is it only nights and weekends? I don't want to be the only one partying.

2) Is it doable to drive from Knoxville to Nashville and back in one day? I'm just trying to cut down on the number of hotels I go to as I'm on a road trip. And no, I won't be getting drunk, so I'll be able to drive. If it's not doable, I might stay the night.
