Ice caves: Mýrdalsjökull vs Vatnajökull ?

I'm wondering how the Mýrdalsjökull ice caves (maybe Katla) compare to those in Vatnajökull (around Jökulsárlón). From where we're staying, the 1st is a 70 min drive, and Jökulsárlón is 3.5 hrs drive. I'm strongly learning toward Mýrdalsjökull out of convenience, although photos seem perhaps less impressive. But what would you do? Our first and likely only visit to Iceland. EDIT to add: this will be at the end of December.
