Hello to all of the Icelandic people of Reddit,
I was browsing through travel forums and I had discovered the wonders of Iceland. Personally, I have never travelled to the EU before, and I was wondering if visiting Iceland as my very first country to visit Europe would be a great choice. It would be great to ask the locals on their opinions and here I am.
I am from Singapore, pretty far away from Iceland. I am sure that the temperatures in Iceland is sure to be cold, it is all part of the travelling experiences. But there is one main question that I would like to ask. How can a tourist approach locals and socialise and become friends? I understand that Iceland has her own language and English is not the first language to use. As a guy who usually use apps to go around meeting people, apps like Hellotalk. Is there an app that will allow some opportunities of hanging out with the locals and getting to know the culture?
I will have to do my own research when I decide to visit after the pandemic, but it would be great to mingle around and indulge in cultural exchange when I do travel to Iceland. Would there be festivals or events going on in the cities that creates the atmosphere of people coming together to celebrate an occasion?
Much of Iceland is just very different from where I am from. Singapore does not have any nature at all, I could say that everything is man made, from the beach to the gardens. Iceland offers plenty of scenic views that are natural and beautiful to take in.
I apologise for writing this post in English and not in Icelandic as I have no knowledge about the language. I would be happy to receive any response from anyone and thank you for your time in reading my post :)
