Hey travellers
I'm arriving in Iceland on Saturday the 25th of August, and leaving on Sunday the 2nd. I'm hiring a car and have put together this itinerary for myself - can you tell me if it sounds crazy or if I'm missing any must-sees? (apart from the Blue Lagoon - I'm tactically choosing to try Myvatn instead...)
I've booked accomodation in Reykavik and Akureyri, so those locations are pinned down, but everything else is more or less up for grabs for now. I know Jokulsarlon is quite a long trip from Reyjkavik, but a few of my friends really recommended it.
Would love any tips! If anyone wants to meet up on one of the evenings when I'm likely to be less exhausted, give me a shout. I'm a 32 year old guy from London, travelling alone. Equally if you need a lift to anywhere I'm going and are willing to chip in a bit for petrol (and are willing to respect my questionable music/podcast choices), let me know.
Saturday 25th
arrive. Check out Reykjavik nightlife.
Sunday
drive to Akureyri
Monday & Tuesday
Do stuff in the north. Myvatn baths, Husavik, whales, huskies, hiking, Detifoss waterfall, Laganes, etc..
Wednesday
Drive to Reykavik. Maybe take an interesting detour or two.
Thursday
Get up early and drive to Jokulsarlon, do the boat tour on the lagoon. Check out some geology on the way back.
Friday
Do the Inside the Volcano trip in the morning. Check out one or two things from the Golden Circle in the afternoon, or stuff on the south coast.
Saturday
explore Reykjavik itself. Old town, national museum - what else?
Sunday 2nd
Early flight!
... would love any advice :)
