Why do you guys use vintage digital cameras?

I'm not a photographer but stumbled onto this subreddit.

What's the reason this subreddit exists and people still use old digital cameras? Is it:

  • Nostalgia or just enjoying using old stuff, even though it produces lower quality photos?

  • You like the the old "style" of the photo (e.g. it looks like it has a filter, but it's just how the camera produces it)?

  • Old digital cameras produce higher quality photos than new ones?

Genuinely interested...

I have a d700, which was at one point considered a top of the line camera. I got it about a year ago for next to nothing and thought ‘what the heck’ because I had several older Nikon lenses that would work. The photos it takes are incredible and just different straight out of the camera than my modern mirrorless. Sure, any digital file can be processed in Lightroom, but these just look different. So I just like it. I dunno. I don’t fetishize old things, no disparagement to those that do. In the case of cameras, the image quality is very subjective, which makes trying older ones cool IMO.

Thanks for laying that out there. It just looks different than my z5, which is an awesome camera too btw. But when you get the shot with the d700 it’s like instant art. Just a really cool quality. So I’m a fan.
