It is easy to handwave Mario's Mystery Meat as a silly meme game, however, as a connoisseur of it, having not only played it but also watched numerous creators play through it, wondering wtf is going on, I've noticed some small nuggets of lore that the creator might've intentionally put there.

To separate meme from lore, I will try my best to avoid themes that involve inside jokes, such as VineRison and Will Smith. Let us focus on Sponge and his journey to get meat for Mario and Luigi's spaghetti.

Now we know that Sponge soaks the sadness of the mushroom kingdom, allowing everyone else to be happy. In the twitch chat section, if you eat enough chat members with Yoshi, you get sent into an alternate version of the map, in which everyone wants Sponge dead. I argue that that is simply a glimpse at Sponge's outlook of the world. After soaking so much sadness, he thinks twich chat hates him, even though our hatred is not for him, but for HE THICC.

But that was easy to pick up. Vinny did find that secret, after all. What he didn't find was that, if you open Incognito mode continuously, you will eventually find yourself in a room with two candles and Princess Bleach's portrait. Nothing changes about the ending, however. Princess Bleach will still be dead and be swallowed by the meat.

That got me thinking... Mushrooms are phallic, the objective is to beat your meat, and Princess Bleach's portrait... The whole ending sequence is an allegory. Sponge feels guilty for masturbating to the princess, he feels like he's dehumanizing her. This whole game is about Sponge's struggle with his sexual urges. Before the Rewind Time section, you can hear Vinny say, backwards; "When he got there the princess was already dead", the "got there" part must refer to an orgasm. The Mario and Luigi's thoughts on CBT section is as if Mario was the angel on his shoulder, telling him that CBT is wrong, while Luigi, the devil on his shoulder, goading him on, telling him to YEET THAT MEAT. It's all connected.
