Being gaslit about weight gain
Post Body

Can Viibryd cause weight gain? I read online that it’s rare, and my psychiatrist says the same.

I’ve gained so much weight over the last few years. If it’s medication related, it has to be Viibryd, Zaleplon, or Vyvanse.

I don’t believe it’s Vyvanse, as I’ve heard people lose weight on that medication.

It looks like Zaleplon references weight gain, but it’s another medication my psychiatrist says doesn’t cause it.

It’s so hard pinpointing where these weight issues come from when your doctor thinks none of them cause it.

Has it affected your appetite at all? Or is this weight gain just random? I’ve heard people have both experiences!

It depends on you and your individual experience, though! For some people it does and for others it doesn’t! I haven’t had any weight gain on any SSRI’s and it seems like this one won’t be any different for me! I didn’t have any of the other GI or water retention side effects as well though. :-/

I started on this med because I took a genesight test that gave me information about what would work best / would give me the least side effects and it also tells you how you metabolize! Maybe that would be helpful for you?

I would honestly start with the sleep medication first but I definitely get wanting to get off both! I hope you advocate for yourself and have a doctor who you trust! It’s completely valid to be distressed over rapid changes in your body and even getting on this medication that was something that was a concern for me! I hope you’re finding ways to keep loving your body for getting you through all this despite not being where you want to be weight wise, as well! For some people the trade off for mental stability is worth it and for others it’s not and I think both realities are again valid. If it isn’t for you keep searching! I would have them or your pcp/gp run both a hormone and metabolic panel if they haven’t already! It could be messing with your thyroid!

Oh sorry, to clarify I didn’t mean from a weight perspective! I meant that it can show you if you’re a poor metabolizer, rapid metabolizer, enzyme wise! At least that’s how my psych explained things for me!

For me I only have 3 in my green so I definitely get the struggle :-(

I have a lot in the red because of my poor metabolizer gene and how I don’t process those enzymes correctly or w/e!

Can I ask when you started noticing any weight gain? Was it pretty immediate, or gradual?

What was your metabolism like prior to getting on medication? I have a fast metabolism and always have so I’m trying to tease out what differences there could be? I’m sorry you’re struggling. It really does seem to be something that varies from person to person >__<

There’s such little research on these things. Starting viibryd effected my period cycle and I’m glad I have a doctor who believes me despite research not being that far yet! It definitely messes with your hormones!
