Hello there

I started filming skateboarding a few months ago. I edit in the free version of davinci resolve. The program is really fun to use and I am pretty happy with it. However i have not had much experience with editing and the whole file management. I feel that I am starting to waste a lot of hard drive space on useless data.

Basically I skate alone and set up the camera somewhere. I film for maybe 20 min at a time. I land tricks every now and then but most of the clip are just failed trick attempts. At home I save the source files on my computer and start editing. On my timeline I place the few tricks that I am happy with and export it as a new compressed clip for social media. As you can imagine this uses up a lot of space since I don't delete the source files in case I want to reuse them. This is what I would like to tackle.

I would like to save a file that contains only the selected clips from the source file. So that I can delete the source file without losing the content. I don't want to just render a clip of my timeline since I lose the ability to drag the individual clips around and i don't see the point of having to recut it. Also I don't want the clips to lose quality.

Does anyone know what the smartest way would be to go about this? Just a few keywords to know what I need to google for would help a lot since I don't seem to figure out what to search for.

Thank you
