face swapping.. is it legal and to what extent?

I'm doing a tribute video and I want to face swap a friend's face with an artist throughout the music video.. first of all I can't really find anything to do it with and secondly and more importantly, is it legal to do and mix in your own material? Someone said tictok but I don't use that nor am I trying to post it!
