Aggressive dog protocol
Post Body

I’m not sure if this is the right sub, so please delete if not.

I have to euthanize a dog today that is dangerous, and can’t really be handled without sedation. What protocols do you guys use in situations like this?

So far oral trazodone (9 mg/kg) and diazepam (~3 mg/kg) aren’t enough and I sent them with 2 mg/kg acepromazine to give in addition.

I offered to try IM dexmedetomidine but the clients were afraid for me to touch the dog with lack of sedation from trazodone and diazepam - I also have had patients override it in the past which is a legitimate concern in this case.

I’d like to be better prepared in the future if a situation like this should arise again.
