Hello, /r/Vet... I apologize for asking here, but /r/askavet seems to be set to private, and so I cannot ask there :-( In any case, I am a Veterinary Technician working in an Emergency Clinic, but I am unable to find the answer to this particular question in any of my textbooks, and don't want to ask any of the Doctors here just in case they don't know the answer (I don't want them to feel embarrassed, or something).
In any case, maintenance rate on fluid is 60-80mL/kg/day, but when we calculate fluid rates, we always pretend it's more simply 60mL/kg/day... Why is it that the lowest number is always used in this case?
