At some point this weekend, this community is going to be locked down. I’m going to make it private. When the community goes private the only way to post will be to become verified and the only way to be verified will be to prove military service. So with that being said, here’s my question to the community.
How should one prove military service and still not compromise PII? Please leave replies here so we can discuss it as a community.
I post almost every day and I do so because I know that there are Service Men/Women all over who use Reddit to escape reality for a bit. Would a challenge coin from The Chief of Staff of the Army work for verification, or holding an awards rack? Yes I have an OF, but I am far from a bot or a creator that has a management team that spams and auto-chats.
I propose 3 or so different "verified" badges, One for verified veterans, one for current (active/reserve/nasty girls) and lastly one for verified "dependas".
Now we all know taking a picture of your CAC is a no no, but I still think that could be done like another sub I'm verified in, they require 2 pics, one from the nose down, holding your ID (in this case CAC, et al) and they have you redact all info aother than showing its current and pic matches nose down. The 2nd pic is this subs name, your username and the date, all on a crumpled piece of paper with the same ID redacted in the same way.
As long as it’s set so anyone can comment but only verified users can post.
Lmk if you need help, I moderate a couple larger subs.
Requiring verification? Sure. Totally get it. Most NSFW subs do at this point.
Going private? That’s a death sentence for this sub.

Well, I would say have them post a piece of Military Memorabilia that is easily identified. The spam bots won’t take the time to go find a challenge coin, some type of award (pertinent info blurred out of course), awards rack, or even just dog tags in the right hand held over your heart. It would work to certify Service Members, true Supporters, and the Military Spouses who love to post 😁
