I had a BH exam back in February and the exam went as decent as it could for someone struggling with major depression (diagnosed over the course of a year with my therapist), I broke down crying towards the end and then got promptly hung up on with no amount of comfort offered which was a bit rude and inconsiderate for a mental health professional, but hey maybe he had somewhere to be. I watched my claim pingpong back and forth multiple times since then between gathering evidence and reviewing evidence. I called VERA to see what the issue was and they told me there was a discrepancy between my evaluation and my other medical records. I asked what the discrepancy was and they found that the examiner tried to diagnose me with BPD over a 30 minute video call.
For anyone unfamiliar with BPD it's a personality disorder (which therefore isn't compensated) brought on generally by childhood trauma. It is also difficult to diagnose without multiple visits due to having multiple symptoms that can line up with other disorders (OCD, Depression, Bipolar, etc.) from what I've been told by people who actually have the disorder.
So this random guy who talked to me for 20 minutes felt like he knew enough about my life to diagnose me with arguably one of the worst personality disorders someone could have despite all evidence I could offer about having depression starting at the time I got injured in the Army with no prior symptoms of struggling with this before service. I already called VES and filed a formal complaint but that means I may need to do this whole process over.Â
TL;DR without my personal complaining: If you have a claim that's getting bounced back and forth, call the VA and ACTUALLY ASK what the discrepancy or issue is because you may learn something important. I waited 2 months trusting my claim would just eventually be resolved through its own systems just to find out this hack doctor threw a wrench in the gears and that's what froze everything up.
