I got my property tax exemption approved by the town back in May. They said it should take effect in July and that I would see it deducted from my mortgage by August. I got very busy with life and work and some mental health stuff and just stopped paying attention to my mortgage statements, which never had the property tax deducted. I didn’t notice until this month when I looked at my statement and say my mortgage increased by almost $400 from what I had been paying before I stopped checking. I called my lender and he explained property taxes had increased and that’s why, so long story short that’s how I found out I wasn’t receiving my exemption. I emailed the town to discuss and am expecting them to take a while to get back to me. Anyone have a similar experience? Am I able to get back payed for the months where I was still charged?
