Moving overseas when rated?
Post Body

Hey guys and gals, was hoping someone with the right knowledge or insight would be able to help me plan my future a bit. I’m an army vet, 25y/o, 40% rated. I’m a first generation American and the only one left in the states, rest of my family is back in Lithuania.

I’ve been having urges of going back there to live and believe it should be reasonably easy considering I’m fluent, I’m a college graduate, and family would be there to support me some of the way. My main issue is that employment for myself over there would be a question mark. In the grand scheme of things, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Cost of living there is significantly lower than here, where I’m paying 2300 for rent versus there it would equate to 400 a month for the same type of apartment. Food, utilities, etc are also cheaper there. So in reality, I should be able to get by with just disability payments coming from the VA. I’ll obviously be looking for a job, but it would be good to know I can depend on that. My question is, what are some of the difficulties I’ll face with this kind of transition? Will I be having to fly back once a year for a VA appointment? Will I be at risk of losing my rating?

Thanks in advance
