Set the scene:
Full VA hospital/clinic approximately 40 miles from me.
Small VA clinic 26 miles from me.
Problem:
For years been going to the full hospital for care as it was closest, then the clinic opened up and they decided my primary care location would be that.
This causes a problem as I often need various tests or what not done. This has resulted in a situation where they wanted me to :
- Go to clinic, doc decides I need blood test done.
- Wait a week, go to hospital to get blood test done.
- Wait a week, go back to the clinic to go over results with doctor.
This is a problem because:
All of this can be done in one visit (and has been before) if I had primary at the VA hospital again.
Even thought the clinic is closer mileage, it takes nearly twice as long to get to. Going to the hospital is mostly highway driving while the clinic is mostly surface streets and lots of traffic.
The clinic is in a small town and can't seem to keep a doctor on staff. In 6 months I haven't had the same doctor twice and my last appointment I had to go to the clinic just to have a video conference with a doctor at the hospital. The issues I have are better to see in person.
Even the nurses at the clinic have complained about the lack of a doctor, they went a full month doing only video conferences because the doctor left (he lasted 2 months) and they were waiting on a new one to come in (should be in late July they said).
So my question is, who would I have to actually contact to get my primary care changed back to the hospital and would they likely do it?
