I had a non combat accident while in Iraq. Was on a building that had equipment that needed taken down and moved to another location. I was helping to remove the equipment when the roof caved in. I was sent to the CSH in Baghdad, and they only did some test, no MRI or anything. I was told the back was sprained even though I had went through and landed flat footed and collapsed. I served my entire term in Iraq. I was National Guard, and my unit would not pay for transport to get an MRI done in Kuwait. I was told since I was National Guard the state would have to pay for it. Well I get back to the states and demobilized, and the doctors at Fort Stewart said that I had actually fractured my back. I was placed on a permanent profile against running while in Iraq. The doctors at Stewart did not want to hold me at Stewart for any medical attention. I flew back to my home state, but nobody said anything about medical boards or anything. Should this have been brought up when I got back to my unit. I know it is too late for anything now, but I have been struggling with this for a while, knowing I fractured my back and eventually had to have surgery.
