I understand VA is health care, not insurance, but I have a question about meds.

So I saw a non-VA doctor out of pocket. I'm 100% disabled. Can't the non-VA doctor send the prescription to the VA and I get it for free? Because the non-VA doctor's office is confused and saying they're not covered by insurance so the VA won't fill the prescriptions they prescribed me.

What I'm saying is, if any doctor has prescription-writing privileges/authority, they can just write me the script and I can get it filled at the VA. Right?

(The only other thing that may somehow make a difference is that I have Tricare Select but I did not use Tricare to see this doctor, it was out of pocket.)

ETA: I saw the doctor for non service-connected issues. But that should be irrelevant because the VA sees vets for non service-connected issues.
