Some context: I work a 6 to 3 M-F job. I hate it. I am out in a maintenance bay with no insulation or AC. The majority of summer is 105 (with humidity) in there and in the winter… well it’s chilly. It has really dragged me down and I feel like a failure after being out of the Marines for almost 10yrs now.
I recently decided to use up the rest of my GI bill (only 10 months left on it) and pick a degree to land a job that can get me indoors in a white collar kind of world possibly. I’ve taken an eye to the IT world. But the problem is, no schools near me really cater to that degree (at least not at the bachelor level). So I looked into an online only degree and there are quite a few.
I brought this to my boss (VP of the petroleum company I work for) and she was all for me getting a better education but discouraged me from pursuing an online degree. She said employers don’t look favorable on those and lean towards in class/ on campus types.
I cannot physically do that with my job and also having children.
Any advice for this early 30’s screw up?
