Hi everyone, I’ve posted a few times in here dancing around the idea of going back to active duty in a branch if possible. I feel lost as civilian.
So I did 4yrs active duty in the Marines and 5yrs reserves in the Army (at the time I thought this was a good choice but it just waisted a lot of time). I am 90% disabled (but not in a sense that I couldn’t perform duties or functions in active duty). I am married (but we are separated) with children and live in a place that is extremely limited in schooling for jobs I have a passion in. And for the work I’d like, I’d need to go in person and the closest schooling is over 2hrs away (and I work full time right now).
So I feel stuck. My career is dead end. I’ve done blue collar type work my entire life (I’m 31). It’s always been mechanic work but never specialized or dedicated to something that could put me in a higher pay range. I want to transition to avionics type work but with my situation it would be near impossible due to the school distance and me having family and a job here.
I really wish I could rejoin a branch and have a second chance at learning a new career type job and I’d be 100% willing to redact my VA disability for that opportunity. I hate my current life and it depresses me tremendously. All I do is work, go home, occasionally see my daughter due to the separation, and then go back to work the next day. This isn’t living.
