Sorry if this isnāt allowed here but I figured yāall would be able to help me and I didnāt think this necessarily fit under āmedical adviceā.
Do you know of any less traumatizing ways to give a fractious cat an insulin injection?
I work as a VA and I also do pet sitting. A nice couple asked if I could sit for their diabetic cat. Itās my first night over here and kitty seemed fine before I fed her, she ate most of her food and I got her to eat the rest by tossing it over to her one piece at a time like a treat. When it came time for the insulin she would not let me get close to her. I couldnāt touch her without her eyes getting huge, ears back, hissing, growling, swatting etc. I ended up doing what I usually do for fractious cats at the clinic. I got a big blanket, tossed it over her and held her down through the blanket and slowly wrapped her up in it all while shes hissing and screaming bloody murder. I worked a leg out and managed to get the injection in. Iām worried about having to do this tomorrow morning and worse, Iām worried about giving the cat really awful behavioral issues for itās owner. I do plan on talking to the owner about it when they get back. In the mean time, the cat needs to eat and needs the insulin. Any suggestions?
