What do you do on Verdun?

I've been looking at Verdun with a group of my friends because we're hoping to find a game for us all to play as a group. My question is what exactly is Verdun? What do you do? Is it supposed to be like Battlefield or is it kinda like Napoleonic Wars on Mount and Blade? Any help would be cool!
