For the past week I've been consuming nothing but Reddit and Twitter, doing nothing but Doom scrolling. It has done nothing but make me depressed and completely hate my life. I think I just need to do some pruning on who I follow and maybe visit those places less. All this Doom scrolling just makes me think that everyone hates everything therefore I should hate everything too. Or because I like a certain things means that I am a horrible human being or have really bad taste.
Even people who advocate for the idea of everyone just has different tastes are cut down and belittled because they didn't choose a side or refuse to pick one, therefore they are weak and have garbage opinions. It just starts to spiral into this whole predicament of if you tell people on the internet you like something they will tell you you are wrong and your entire life is a joke without even knowing you. If you stand up for your opinion or someone else, everyone will belittle you because you are defending something a sizable amount of people think is worthless. I know not all of this is entirely true and that this is basically what the internet is but it really discourages me from having an online presence or even try to defend anyone or anything.
Brings me back to this one question, what is the point of having an opinion on the internet when everyone will disagree with you?
If anything, it helps me really think if I have an actual opinion rather than just going along with what the majority rules. I personally think it's true, I don't really have much of an opinion and I find myself just trailing behind what the masses think is best. It makes me realize that I have very low self-esteem and give in to peer pressure easily. There's a lot I got to think about and really consider.
