Is it normal for close friends to only respond to your texts/messages once a month?
Post Body

Since I graduated high school in 2017, Iā€™ve only retained two friends from my high school (my only friends tbh) and theyā€™ve had a long streak of rarely initiating conversations through text, as well as responding literal days after I text them. Theyā€™ve told me theyā€™re busy with work and school and life which I completely understand. Naive younger me used to think thatā€™s really the only reason they donā€™t respond, but now that Iā€™m a bit older and Iā€™ve seen the patterns and details I am a bit more hesitant to accept the whole ā€œI was too busy to respondā€ or ā€œI saw your text but forgot to replyā€. Iā€™ve changed my reason a bit now to thinking that Iā€™m just not a priority in their lives, which is a bit unfortunate but itā€™s life. I understand that we canā€™t force ourselves to be the priority in other peopleā€™s lives, but it would be a nice change to know that I donā€™t have to wait 3-30 days to have a conversation with you.

I hope someone can see my point of view here and can sympathize in some way. Itā€™s hard to make new friends as an adult and people are way too flakey nowadays that itā€™s normal to cancel the day of plans or show up 30 mins - 1 hour late to plans. Or just the process of ā€œwhat day are you available on your calendarā€ is just too much to do sometimes and people donā€™t follow through on what day theyā€™re available.

Thanks for reading in advance haha. As much as I love my friends, I would like to have a conversation with them outside of when itā€™s only convenient in their time
