Since I graduated high school in 2017, Iāve only retained two friends from my high school (my only friends tbh) and theyāve had a long streak of rarely initiating conversations through text, as well as responding literal days after I text them. Theyāve told me theyāre busy with work and school and life which I completely understand. Naive younger me used to think thatās really the only reason they donāt respond, but now that Iām a bit older and Iāve seen the patterns and details I am a bit more hesitant to accept the whole āI was too busy to respondā or āI saw your text but forgot to replyā. Iāve changed my reason a bit now to thinking that Iām just not a priority in their lives, which is a bit unfortunate but itās life. I understand that we canāt force ourselves to be the priority in other peopleās lives, but it would be a nice change to know that I donāt have to wait 3-30 days to have a conversation with you.
I hope someone can see my point of view here and can sympathize in some way. Itās hard to make new friends as an adult and people are way too flakey nowadays that itās normal to cancel the day of plans or show up 30 mins - 1 hour late to plans. Or just the process of āwhat day are you available on your calendarā is just too much to do sometimes and people donāt follow through on what day theyāre available.
Thanks for reading in advance haha. As much as I love my friends, I would like to have a conversation with them outside of when itās only convenient in their time
