I have been a thrifter most of my life, learning about the joys of it from my mom, aunt, and grandma since I was nine or ten years old. When I was a poor college student, I’d thrift all my professional clothing for my internship because I could find igh quality pieces for a few bucks each. I’ve decorated my home with thrifted art. It was like treasure hunting. I’m in my thirties now, and the insane prices have sucked the joy out of it. Today I was at a local charity thrift store in my city and saw a cheapo big5 ice chest for $12, a cotton men’s shirt for $9, and a ziplock baggie full of sewing thread for $16. What the actual fuck?? I walked out empty handed. I blame re-sellers and thrift “influencers” on social media. The stores caught on and got greedy and jacked up their prices.
