We have another "update meeting" coming up at work. It's an hour of our time where the owner talks to us about himself, and how much money he has and we are mandated to go to them every 3 months. It's just amazing to me how he really needs an audience to brag about all that he has from the work WE do to earn him his money.
At the last meeting, he was talking about the big check he was getting from the government for the past year payroll. He was so excited to tell us that he received a check for 2.5 million dollars and said "how many of you can say that YOU held a check for 2.5 million dollars?" with a laugh.
We have a couple disabled people who work in the back of the building. The only restroom is in the front. Someone suggested building a small bathroom in the back of the building. The owner said that they can walk. We don't have any windows to open and no airflow in the building during the summer. The temperatures can reach over 100 degrees with over 80% humidity. Someone asked if we could have some windows to open. He said that we couldn't because he doesn't want the building to look ugly. We had an employee die in the bathroom one year, and he told us to walk over him and go back to work while leaving him lay there for a couple hours before calling the authorities. He just couldn't be bothered. At the last meeting, we were told that the employees were finally going to get a bonus, and the owner was super excited about getting flat screen TVs for the work floor. The TVs came first, and our bonuses were 2 weeks late. Shows how important the employees are in comparison to the TVs.
He constantly preaches to us about God and writes sermons for us that he has attached to the bulletin board. They are about how God requires us to make him money, and that God says we need to work hard to make him the most money since he is the ultimate Christian in God's eyes. I call him Prophet [name] as a joke to get myself through the day. Currently, the owner says we need to make him about 10 million dollars in the next couple years, and then we can have a small luncheon on a weekend day where we will have to hear him brag about himself. We just had a lunch last week where he talked about how we need to be the upmost loyal to the company. You know, wake up with an incredible THIRST to go to work and make him money (his exact words and emphasis.)
I guess I'm just at my wit's end with the owner because I woke up on Friday completely congested, coughing, with a sore throat and I took my last sick day so I could try and go back to work tomorrow. I'm not at 100% yet and I may be contagious, but I have to go and make this delusional Prophet of God millions of dollars because that's supposed to be THE MOST IMPORTANT thing in my life. Him. The Prophet. Not my own health, and not even myself. But him. And I have to go to another "update meeting" this week and hear this guy brag about his money again. I just wish I could do for myself what I need to do to be healthy. But who is more important in society - a factory worker or a delusional Prophet of God who has millions of dollars?
