Buy a bird to set it free
Post Body

Some of you might've seen my post in r/vegan a couple of days ago but that one got bombed with speciesists so that's why I am asking the real vegan subreddit.

Would it be ethically and morally okay to purchase a bird from an animal shop and set it free? You'd introduce supply and demand but, at the same time, set a sentient being free.

(Now, replace bird with human and animal shop with slavemaster if you're gonna say something like "no don't do it it's better to keep the bird in captivity".)

DISCLAIMER:

  • I know what I'm doing, I know you can't just release a bird and have to get them accomodated first/have it be the right climate, habitat and ecosysytem so no point giving advice. I'm not stupid.
  • I asked the shop what happens to the birds if they get too old/get sick, they keep and treat them there until they die.
  • They don't give away their old and sick birds for free.
  • They don't have any flying room at all in the animal shop.
