What I've Been Up To
Post Body

Hey, I guess I'll just post this here.

Prior to 2015 I was getting the annoyed feeling that I was being anti-social following getting banned off VeggieBoards and given how I was first introduced to the internet through forums, I spent 2015 binge-watching over 200 movies and doing reviews for them over on Movie Forums. After that I decided to take a few months off of movies and instead turned to Twitter which I seem to have overlooked in my criticism of mainstream social media platforms. It's still far less than ideal, but the sheer volume of people on Twitter has given me immediate access to news and a pretty big pool of diverse people to keep up with.

Around this time I also shifted my Youtube subscriptions to politics following gay marriage being legalized in my state and the big controversial transgender topic popping up. Or rather, I was being controversial by not immediately accepting the whole "born in another body" idea. Sure enough my suspicions have born out and I'm quite aghast at the sheer scope of competing delusional influences happening on a global level. I guess you could say I'm "red pilled" as you say, but hardly more than I already was given I've long been in favor of animal rights and against religion. Here's something I posted to Movie Forums around the time:

I'm pretty heavily adjusted to much more... liberal environments and I find it odd, if not amusing, that I recently find myself not infrequently siding with conservative perspectives. Although both terms really feel more like relatively indefinite labels attached to much more complex dichotomies and I honestly find myself thoroughly repelled by this notion of binary politics, I still think it's interesting to see debates in the thick of it from both sides.

I've spent long periods of time with people who had radically opposing views of the same subject and while I was privy to their personal perspectives due to my general impartiality it seems it nearly always comes down to "you don't get it" whenever I offer a counter to either side, presumably because I'm not on their side. People don't like Devil's Advocate for some reason, it's very frustrating. Sometimes I'M just trying to figure things out, you know?

Anyway, it's a perplexing feeling to be talking into a wind tunnel on one forum and then finding the complete opposite scenario in another. I mean, I come from a largely atheist-dominant prioritarian... hippie community. The contrast is both refreshing and weird.

All of the basic political tests I take put me deep into either left or right extremes, but the longest most in-depth ones I've taken have put me dead-center of the political compass, consistently below the median so I lean libertarian. Wasn't even all that familiar with political ideologies at the time, but I've since done a lot of reading and I've recently stumbled upon Geo-Libertarianism which is a compromise between the left-leaning Green Party I used to prefer and the right-leaning Libertarian Party I reluctantly sympathize with now. I've since been reading Progress and Poverty by Henry George which lays out a variety of criticisms of our current economic model and offers a revised approach to taxes I can agree with. Dan Sullivan, is also someone I wish I knew how to find because he wrote up some beautiful articles in the 90s on using "Georgism" to combine the two parties into a sort of ying and yang (which appeals to me on a frankly absurd level).

Recently I've been creatively stumped on a game I've working on developing and have been trying to improve my hand at drawing although just this past month I got jumped so I've had a broken bone in my dominant hand preventing me from getting anything done. I'm also broke as sin so it's not helped my financial situation, although today I got back from the orthopedic clinic and it sounds like I won't need surgery after all. My hand may be permanently fucked up, but this may mean that I'll finally be able to do my first actual commission and maybe get some way towards buying back my PS4 which I'm sorely missing.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I've been running the @VeganCirclejerk Twitter account.
