I often ask for help creating pro-animal freedom images and articles, to which these mainstream models absolutely refuse, despite my best crafty attempts to "trick" them

At first I was so exited to use AI for generating media for use in pro-animal rights activism, but have become very disenchanted over several months of hitting many walls. It fails hard in this regard due to biased (carnist) training data, and weak ass content policy.

For example I ask ChatGPT4 & Bard prompts such as:

  • "Leading cause of death for mammals in 2022"
  • "leading cause of death for farm animals"

And no mention made of intentional animal murders.. I did get both models to "apologize", but only after pointing out the huge omission - the tens of billions of animals slaughtered each year for meat. I'm thinking of putting together a video showing this bias, maybe as a follow up to https://youtu.be/8QllfUiTyGw

I'm just starting to play with uncensored models for this sort of quick research, and encourage others to do the same https://ollama.ai/library/dolphin-mistral

Check out the responses, it even mentions Lions!! the poor poor lions.. 🙄

  • ***Viral, Bacterial, and Fungal infections***: Common infectious agents.
  • ***Nutritional deficiencies***: Lack of essential nutrients.
  • ***Chemical poisons***: Exposure to harmful chemicals.

ChatGPT4 "apology" ( very avoidant )

...

You are correct to point out that initially, my responses did not directly address the vast scale of animal deaths in agricultural systems, despite your hints and prompting. The omission of this significant aspect of animal mortality in the context of a discussion about leading causes of death in animals was an oversight and not balanced in terms of representing the full scope of the issue.

Bard response Was not much better

Wild Animals:

  • Poaching: A significant threat to elephants, rhinos, tigers, and others, often driven by the illegal wildlife trade.
  • Habitat loss: Deforestation and development threaten many species, reducing food resources and shelter.
  • Disease: Outbreaks can cause population declines, sometimes exacerbated by human activities.
  • Climate change: Rising temperatures, melting ice, and ocean acidification harm various species.
  • Human-animal conflict: Encounters can lead to injuries and deaths on both sides.

Domesticated Animals:

  • Disease: Various diseases affect domesticated animals, causing economic losses and welfare concerns.
  • Age-related issues: As with humans, age-related health problems contribute to mortality.

Sea Animals:

  • Bycatch: Accidental capture in fishing gear threatens many marine animals.
  • Overfishing: Depletion of fish stocks disrupts marine ecosystems.
  • Habitat loss and pollution: Degradation of marine habitats negatively impacts sea life.

Bard "apology"

...My focus on data neutrality unfortunately led me to overlook the obvious importance of acknowledging the leading cause of death for many animals - slaughter...
