I've been thinking much about how strong the general dislike is for vegan activists.
In the case of veganism I think i will be especially tough to advocate for animals who can't defend themselves at all. At least black slaves were able to fight for the union in the civil war. And may rise to positions of respect and power ( e.g. Robert Smalls). Still their allies suffered E.g.Caning of Charles Sumner in many ways without ever getting justice.
I also wonder which group was the more disliked, discriminated, black-balled by the general public during their time, Slavery Abolitionists, or Vegan Activists?
I think US Slavery Abolitionists had to fight more violence, because slaves were maybe worth more and had more.. uses as livestock than other animals. Or perhaps racial prejudices go deeper that dietary behaviors.
How about other scenarios like living in Nazi Germany but having empathy for all persecuted groups. Perhaps that was the worst, being dangerous to even speak openly about being against their mistreatment and murder.
I was called many nasty names on another post, simply for pointing out that things like The Rape Rack exist, right after being told that comparing vegan to anti-rape stance is "weird".
I'm lucky it's just words in this case, though I've seen some vegan activists face physical violence, even for peaceful protest.
A common negative emotional reaction meat eaters have is to double down and "threaten" to eat more meat just to upset a vegan, but really their heart was already closed, so there was no mind there to change. With these folk, I think best to avoid wasting energy, like I did on the reddit post.
It's a good reminder of how strongly people dislike being asked to evaluate their ethics, esp. when diet is involved.

How can we most efficiently address this? Should activism entail ideas like Green Spending: Keeping it in the Vegan Community? Patronizing each other's business, even where we have disagree on other topics, assuming see this as the greatest cause where we can make a positive difference.
Recently saw excellent vid that touches on some of these topics.
The #1 reason people refuse to make ethical change
