Hey everyone, I am currently directing a very small local campaign against a utility company that is trying to build through protected land meant to conserve endangered native species. It’s not exactly vegan activism, so I do apologize if this is not the right place, I am vegan, and this is the largest activist community I know of, so I figured it could be relevant enough and that yall may have the answers!
So, we are focusing our efforts on passing out flyers and comment forms, which are provided by said utility company, as part of an awareness campaign to let users of our greenway know it’s under threat. I met up with a volunteer to reup them on flyers, and they informed me they didn’t need the comment forms bc he wasn’t passing them out. I told him we should be passing them out and that they don’t cost us anything to provide, but he insisted it was a waste and that everyone would just use the QR code on the flyer to access the digital pdf of the comment form. While I understand many will resort to this approach, we have collected hundreds of these comment forms and plan on turning them in, in person, for a photo op. People will even immediately start filling out the comment form when made aware of the issue, so I know these comment forms are effective, but this guy is older and seemed like he has already made his mind up, plus having volunteers is better then not having any, so I let it go. But I want to make it clear, and have proof, of how effective passing out these comment forms can be, especially when they are only at the cost of the company we are in opposition of. I majored in political science, so I immediately started looking for any studies on this topic to support my position, but I cannot find anything even close to what I’m looking for. Does anyone here have any advice for this situation or know of any studies/research that show the effectiveness of handing out physical comment forms?
Again, I want to apologize if this is too far off base for this subreddit. I know it’s very loosely connected, but I do believe it could be of benefit to vegan activism campaigns too! Feel free to remove the post and I’ll definitely be back later when I have something more related to this community. Much love ✌️🌱
TL;DR: are handing out physical comment forms an effective means of generating community engagement and encouraging people to fill out the form?
