A while ago, I made a post ("Living Under Totalitarianism Sucks") and basically said that the heads of two of the main opposition parties were probably hand-picked by Erdogan to self-sabotage their every chance to win elections and change the government. After losing the most important election in Turkey's history, the public outrage directed at the CHP emboldened what we thought was a small minority within the party that was disconnected from the board of directors to challenge them to send Kılıçdaroğlu away and dissolve the current party council.
This movement was started and run by Ekrem Imamoglu, but he chose Özgür Özel to be its figurehead, because drawing too much attention to himself incites the AKP and Kılıçdaroğlu to do drastic things to get rid of him. After 6 months of struggle, despite all of Kılıçdaroğlu's shady tricks, Özgür Özel became the 8th chairman of Turkey's founding party, which certainly means a more independent CHP, but whether or not this transformation will increase the prospects of victory in future elections is yet to be seen.
I'll keep you updated on big things that happen in Turkey, if you want. I hope this doesn't get deleted for being "unrelated content."
